Lawrence C. Aronow
WI: LMFT; AZ: LAMFT; Qualified Divorce, Family & Insurance Mediator
I’m the humorist in the room. Born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa is my big claim to fame; and, I’m a Hawkeye’s fan through and through (sorry Badgers). When it comes to my work, though, I take it seriously. Your well-being and fulfilling life is what matters and is my focus when we’re together.
Marriage and Family Therapy is my second career after spending a lengthy time in the insurance industry. During my college years, spent at Northwest Missouri State University, a desire to be in the helping professions guided my choices of academic pursuit. Graduating with a Psychology/Sociology double major, I wanted to attend graduate school in Psychology after graduation. However, that didn’t happen – life has a way of altering even the most earnest desires. My corporate career was rewarding, though. But, after 25 years, my company was sold to a larger conglomerate. My job was gone. One day, my wife asked me what I was planning on doing. I replied, “go to school.” Selecting the Marriage and Family Therapy program at the University of Wisconsin – Stout was one of my best decisions.
My clinical experience includes working in a student counseling center, The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System where I worked with an integrated treatment team, and River Ridge a Trauma Informed Gender Responsive Co-Occurring Treatment Center where I worked as a Psychotherapist.
I have significant experience, from my previous employment in a large insurance company, working in the court system mediating agreements between individuals, their insurance companies, and lawyers. I combine that experience with my credentials as a 767 Qualified Divorce and Family Mediator to bring individuals and families favorable outcomes.
I consider it an honor to be able to work in service to others. My work is informed not only by my clinical and academic experiences but also the highs and the lows that all of us have along the way. Together, let’s make a breakthrough!

A line in one of David Whyte’s poems inspires my work as a therapist. He writes, “You were never more marvelous than in your simple wish to find a way.” Whatever the challenge or the pain, I promise to join with you to create a happier and more hopeful life.
My professional experience began as a Human Resources leader in national and regional professional services including investment banking, tax and advisory services, and law firms. I obtained an executive coach credential and started Paleen Consulting, Inc. an international consulting and coaching company that employed a faculty of in-country, executive coaches who delivered my proprietary leader development curriculum. It was an exciting and fulfilling career – but, I was not done.
I went back to graduate school at the University of Wisconsin – Stout and graduated with a Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. My clinical experience includes working in a community clinic with individuals, couples, children and adolescents facing depression and anxiety, impulsive behaviors, divorce, and attachment related challenges.
As a good listener, an empathic clinician, and a creative therapist, I look forward to working with you. Let’s do this together!
PhD in Cuddling
I love people – all people. My best skills are cuddling, hunting, eating, sleeping, eating topped off with more cuddling. My favorite sport is chasing squirrels and chipmunks at which I’m very good. My family says that I’m a good trail dog – but I honestly don’t know what that means. I just run down the trail. But, it’s okay if that’s what they want to think. I hope that I can meet you someday because I love people – all people.
